This Clash t-shirt features a painting done by Ray Lowry who was picked by Joe Strummer and Mick Jones to join The Clash on their 1979 US Tour as their official 'war artist', and is a classic piece of Rays art. It shows Joe, Mick and Paul live on stage.Ray would sketch the band whilst they played, often standing at the back of the gig or side of stage, he would then return to his hotel room and work late into the night to finish the piece adding colour from memory. At first glance Rays work appears scratchy but on closer inspection the personalities and movement of the individual band members can be seen. Ray also captured the raw energy of the performance, which demonstrates why Joe Strummer selected Ray as the bands war artist.Ray Lowry understands the very essence of rock and roll and unusually for an artist he can capture it.
